Getting your help center up and running takes just a few minutes. This guide walks you through the process from start to finish.
Step 1: Create an Account
Visit helpdesky.io and click Get Started Free. Enter your email address and choose a password to create your account.
Step 2: Set Up Your Helpdesk
After logging in, you will be prompted to create your helpdesk. You need to provide:
- Company Name — the name that appears in your help center header
- Slug — a URL-friendly identifier for your help center (for example,
acmegives youhttps://helpdesky.io/help/acme)
Choose your slug carefully — it becomes part of your public URL. Keep it short, lowercase, and recognizable. You can always move to your own address later: there are four hosting options (the Helpdesky address, your own subdomain, a subfolder on your website, or headless inside your own templates), compared in Choosing Where to Host Your Help Center.
After setup, you can change the name under Settings > General (the Helpdesk name field) and the slug under Help Center > Domain & Address (the URL slug field in the Helpdesky address card).
After creating your helpdesk, open Help Center > Domain & Address to review its URL slug. The public URL appears below the slug field.
Step 3: Access Your Dashboard
Once your helpdesk is created, you will land on the dashboard. From here you can:
- Create categories to organize your content
- Write articles using the built-in editor
- Configure branding — upload a logo, set colors, and customize the hero section
- Choose where your help center lives under Help Center > Domain & Address: keep the Helpdesky address, or move to your own subdomain, a subfolder on your website or headless hosting. Choosing Where to Host Your Help Center compares the four options
Step 4: View Your Public Page
Your help center is immediately live at:
https://helpdesky.io/help/your-slug
Open Overview and click Visit, or open this URL, to see what your customers see. It starts empty, but as you add categories and articles, the page populates automatically.
Articles must be set to Published to appear on your public help center. Draft articles are only visible in the dashboard.
