Freshdesk alternative: Helpdesky

A Freshdesk alternative without per agent pricing. Helpdesky gives you help center, widget, contact form and ticket center from $9 a month.

If you are looking for a Freshdesk alternative, you are probably either tired of per agent pricing or want something that sets up in an hour rather than a week. We built Helpdesky for teams that need a help center, a widget, a contact form and a real ticketing portal, without the platform overhead.

Why people switch from Freshdesk

Common reasons:

  • Per agent pricing: Growth is $19 per agent a month, Pro is $55, Enterprise is $89, all billed annually. See Freshdesk pricing.
  • The free plan is generous on agents but limited on features and ends after the trial structure for many newer accounts.
  • Freddy AI Agent is metered per session at $49 per 100 sessions after the included quota.
  • The product is broad. Most small teams use 20% of it and pay for the other 80%.

Helpdesky at a glance

Helpdesky bundles a help center, embeddable widget, contact form and async ticket center, with unlimited seats on every plan.

  • Free, $0 a month, 1 helpdesk, 2 articles, 10 conversations
  • Pro, $9 a month, 50 articles, 150 conversations, custom domain
  • Ultimate, $29 a month, 3 helpdesks, unlimited articles and conversations

A five agent team on Freshdesk Pro is $275 a month at the annual rate. The same team on Helpdesky Pro is $9 a month. See Helpdesky pricing.

Side by side: Helpdesky vs Freshdesk

Pricing

Freshdesk charges per agent. Helpdesky charges per workspace with unlimited seats. Add ten people, the bill stays the same.

Helpdesky uses semantic RAG search over your articles, on every plan, with no per session fee. Freshdesk's Freddy AI is solid but metered, and many of its better features sit on Pro and Enterprise.

Custom domains

Every Helpdesky plan supports custom domains via Cloudflare for SaaS. Your help center lives at help.yourbrand.com from day one. See Setting Up a Custom Domain. Freshdesk supports custom help center domains too but only from the higher tiers, with manual SSL setup in some cases.

Contact form

Helpdesky has a drop in embeddable contact form. Freshdesk has a feedback widget and email channel that can act as a contact form, though for a clean standalone form most teams end up building one in a third party form tool and forwarding the result.

Ticket center

Helpdesky's ticket center is an embeddable hosted portal where signed in users see all their conversations. Freshdesk's customer portal is also strong, that is one place where it earns its price for big teams.

No plugins

Helpdesky has no marketplace. The widget, AI, custom domain, email channel, ticket center and API are all in the base product. Freshdesk leans on its app marketplace and several useful flows expect a paid app or a higher plan.

Many customisations

Helpdesky offers logo, favicon, brand colour, light or dark theme, and a choice of two help center layouts. The widget is themable end to end. Freshdesk gives you portal templates and theme controls, but custom theming usually means Liquid templates and some HTML.

Email forwarding

Each Helpdesky helpdesk gets an inbound address like yourslug-123456@inbox.helpdesky.io. Forward your existing support@ inbox and emails become threaded conversations. See Email Forwarding Setup. Freshdesk also handles email very well, that is core to the product.

Widget with helpdesk and AI help

The Helpdesky widget combines instant article search, AI answers, quick questions, in widget article reading and a messaging tab. See Adding the Widget to Your Site.

When Freshdesk might still be the right fit

If you need IT service management alongside customer support, a deep integration with Freshchat, Freshcaller and Freshsales, or features like skills based assignment, audit logs and approval workflows for a regulated environment, Freshdesk earns its sticker price. Helpdesky is not trying to replace a full ITSM and CX suite. Pick Freshdesk if those Enterprise features are required.

Get started with Helpdesky

For teams whose support stack is "a help center, a widget, an inbox and a portal", Helpdesky covers it for $9 a month flat. Create your Helpdesky and try it.
