Helpdesky has three plans: Free, Pro and Ultimate. This guide explains what each plan includes, how limits are counted, and how to upgrade, downgrade, cancel and download invoices from the Billing page.
Plans belong to your user account, not to a single help center. Your account owns its help centers, and each one uses one of the helpdesk slots your plan grants. Teammates you invite never pay anything.
The three plans
| Free | Pro | Ultimate | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $9 per month | $29 per month |
| Helpdesk slots | 1 | 1 | 3 |
| Articles | Up to 2 | 50 | Unlimited |
| Conversations | 10 per month | 150 per month | Unlimited |
| Team seats | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| "Powered by Helpdesky" badge | Shown | Can be removed | Can be removed |
| Priority support | Included |
Every plan includes the public help center, the embeddable widget, AI answers, AI content generation, the SEO tools, the contact form and the ticket center. Pro adds branding removal, and Ultimate adds two more helpdesk slots, unlimited content and priority support.
How the limits work
- Articles counts every article in a help center, drafts included. When you reach the limit you cannot create another article until you delete one or upgrade. If a help center moves to a lower plan, articles above the new limit are unpublished automatically (see below).
- Conversations counts new conversations started through the widget, contact form, ticket center or email forwarding in the current calendar month. The counter resets on the first day of each month. Owners receive one email per month when a help center reaches its limit.
- Helpdesk slots decide how many of your help centers get the full plan limits. A help center that is not covered by a slot falls back to Free plan limits. See Running Several Help Centers on One Account.
The Billing page shows usage bars for articles and conversations this month so you can see how close you are.
Upgrade to a paid plan
- Open Billing in the dashboard sidebar.
- Under Choose a Plan, click Upgrade to Pro or Upgrade to Ultimate.
- You are taken to a secure hosted checkout. Enter your card details and confirm.
- You are returned to the Billing page with your new plan active. Help centers that already occupy a slot get the new limits right away.
Moving from Pro to Ultimate later happens immediately from the same page, no new checkout needed.
Downgrade to a lower plan
Click Downgrade to Free or Downgrade to Pro under the plan cards. A dialog spells out what changes:
- Between paid plans the change applies immediately and the lower limits take effect.
- To Free the subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period, then moves to Free. The Billing page shows Cancels at period end in the meantime.
When a help center drops to a lower article limit, Helpdesky keeps the oldest articles up to the new limit and automatically unpublishes the rest. On Free that means only your 2 oldest articles stay live. Nothing is deleted: the articles remain in your dashboard as drafts, and when you upgrade again they are republished for you automatically.
Cancel or reactivate a subscription
Click Cancel subscription on the current plan card. The dialog lists exactly what will be unpublished and when. Confirm to schedule the cancellation. You keep paid features until the period ends.
Changed your mind? While the status still says Cancels at period end, click Reactivate subscription and the plan continues without interruption.
Update your card or billing details
Click Manage billing to open the payment provider's billing portal in a new tab. There you can change the payment method, update the billing address and view the subscription.
Invoices and billing history
Every payment appears under Billing history with the date, description and amount. Click the download icon on a row to open the invoice as a PDF. If the button reports that the invoice is not ready yet, wait a moment and try again.
Frequently asked questions
Do I pay per teammate? No. Invite as many staff and owners as you like on any plan. See Inviting Teammates and Managing Roles.
I have two help centers on Pro. Why does one of them show Free limits? Pro includes one slot. Use the Helpdesk slots section on the Billing page to choose which help center is covered, or upgrade to Ultimate for three slots.
Can someone else take over paying for a help center? Yes. The primary owner can hand it to another account with ownership transfer. The new owner needs a free slot on their own plan.
Where do I change my email or password? Those live on the Profile page. See Account and Profile Settings.
Open Billing whenever you want to check usage, and upgrade when your help center starts to outgrow its limits.
